Counselling
How I Work
I offer counselling mainly from a person-centred perspective. This means I aim to provide a safe container in which you can get to know yourself, your experiences and what is important to you. I believe that people have the capacity to find their own way when given the space to do so, and that therapy works best when that space is built on trust, honesty and genuine human connection.
I am a trained trauma-informed yoga teacher and I integrate movement and body-based practices into your sessions if this is of interest to you. My experience at work and in life has shown me that stress in one area of your life can affect your whole experience and burnout can be felt in the body. Movement practices can give us another way to work with feelings of stuckness, overwhelm and detachment. In your session, this might look like breathing together, gentle movement, visualisations, self-compassion practices and body awareness.
You can use your sessions to talk about areas such as anxiety, depression, stress, LGBTQ+ identity, burnout, relationship concerns, health conditions, loss, questions of identity and your relationship with yourself. Ultimately, I will work with you as a whole person rather than focusing on individual problems. I work exclusively with adults and young adults over 16.
Who i work with
I have particular interest in working with people in helping professions such as support workers, healthcare workers, youth workers, people working within asylum support services and community services. My background in these areas has given me insight into how the work of supporting others can affect your own wellbeing in every part of life, not just at work.
I'm also drawn to working with young adults navigating life changes. This might include grappling with questions of identity, relationships or working out what is important to you.
Although this is where my experience lies, this is not an exhaustive list of who I work with. I would love to hear from you if you are interested in working together.
Consultation & First Session
I offer a free 15 minute initial consultation, giving us both the opportunity to see if we feel like the right fit to work together. If we decide to go ahead, our first session will involve getting to know each other and understanding what you want to get out of counselling and looking at a contract and discussing the boundaries of our relationship, so that you feel clear and safe about the process from the outset.
Sessions & Frequency
Sessions are 50 minutes and are held online. We will agree together on a day, time and frequency that works for you. Most people find weekly sessions useful to begin with, though fortnightly can also work well depending on your needs and preferences.
Length of Therapy
The therapeutic relationship lasts as long as you find it useful. You have full autonomy over when to end and we will discuss endings throughout our work together, so that the process feels considered and right for you.
Fees & Reduced Rates
Sessions are £50, and I offer a limited number of reduced rate sessions for those who need them. Please don't hesitate to get in touch to discuss.
